Letters, 1886-1907.

Two letters -- one written by Samuel Pennypacker and a second written to him. In the first, Pennypacker thanks John D. Brown for information concerning Plockhoy. The second letter requested that the dates on the title page of his history, Pennsylvania and the revolution, be changed from 1880 to 1886.

Samuel Pennypacker -- governor, jurist and historian -- was born in Phoenixville and educated at the University of Pennsylvania where he studied law. He was called to the bar in 1868 and elected president of the Law Academy of Philadelphia. In 1889, he became judge of the Court of Common Pleas and remained in that post for 20 years.
